The Human Rights Commission has reiterated its concerns about the proposed change to citizenship rights in next month's referendum.

In a statement, the commission said it was concerned at the lack of consultation with it, or the All-Party Committee on the Constitution, over the proposed change.

The commission said it was worried about the future constitutional protection of children born in the State to non-national parents.

It also said that the information put forward by the Government in support of its case seemed to be vague or anecdotal in nature, and was insufficient to draw inferences about why non-nationals decide to give birth in Ireland.

It reiterated that there was an arguable case as to its impact on the Good Friday Agreement.
