Wexford farmers protest over nitrates

Farmers from across Wexford have held a protest at Johnstown Castle over the controversial Nitrates Directive.

The directive, which is to be introduced next year, compels farmers to use less fertiliser on their land.

The farmers claim it is set at a level at which they cannot operate economically.

The protest was organised by the Wexford branch of the Irish Farmers' Association and was supported by the farm family group.
