Dublin & Monaghan bombings - Verdicts heard

The jury of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings inquest has found that all 34 victims of the May 1974 attacks were unlawfully killed by person or persons unknown.

The jury found that the evidence indicated that members of a loyalist group were involved, but the evidence did not establish this fact beyond reasonable doubt.

The jury requested the coroner to forward the transcripts of the inquest to the Taoiseach and also requested that the Government forward the transcripts to the Northern Secretary.

The Dublin City Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, described the bombings as a gross example of man's inhumanity to man.

The inquest into the deaths of the 34 victims heard more than three weeks of evidence.

Yesterday Dr Farrell gave the 12-member jury a summary of the evidence that was given by the 153 witnesses, which included families of the victims, gardaí and medical experts.
