Another incident of customer overcharging has been discovered by AIB.
An AIB spokesman has confirmed that more than 500 of its mortgage customers may be due refunds.
According to a report in the Tallaght-based Echo newspaper, the bank automatically applied payment protection to the top-up mortgages received by in excess of 500 customers since 2001.
Payment protection is an optional extra that provides cover for people if they suffer illness or injury and cannot keep up their repayments.
The discrepancy was discovered after the bank began examining its retail activities in the wake of the recent foreign exchange controversy.
