Palestinian medical sources say a 12-year-old was killed today when an Israeli helicopter fired a missile near a market in Gaza City.
The raid came after intense fighting in the neighbourhood of Zeitun when six Israeli soldiers and five Palestinians were also killed.
The soldiers were reportedly searching for workshops in the crowded neighbourhood where rockets used in attacks on Jewish settlements were being made.
Israel responded to the ambush with a missile strike. Hamas said its militants had been targeted but escaped unhurt.
