The Labour Party spokesperson on Justice, Joe Costello, has urged that the Criminal Assets Bureau be called in to investigate the AIB foreign exchange overcharging revealed last week by RTÉ News.
In a statement, Mr Costello said that that the AIB had effectively defrauded customers over a sustained number of years, and that this amounted to white collar crime at its worst.
Mr Costello said that those responsible for stealing from their customers should be subjected to the full rigours of the law.
Last week, AIB confirmed that it had overcharged some customers by a total of €14m.
