Nine people have been killed in a series of attacks in the Red Sea port of Yanbu in Saudi Arabia.

The country's Interior Ministry said a group of four militants stormed the headquarters of a contracting company, opening fire on Saudis and foreigners.

Two Americans, two Britons, an Australian, and one Saudi policeman are among the dead. Witnesses say the body of one of the westerners was dragged through the city by a car.

It is believed that a McDonald's hamburger restaurant was also targeted by the group before security forces killed three of them and wounded the fourth.

There has been a series of terrorist incidents in Saudi Arabia in the past year, many of them aimed at foreigners.

More than 50 people have been killed in suicide bombings in the capital, Riyadh, including an attack on a building used by the security forces last month.
