The Greek Cypriots' overwhelming rejection of a United Nations plan to reunite the island has been met with widespread regret.
The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said a unique and historic chance had been missed.
The Taoiseach, as President of the European Union, has expressed his disappointment that a united Cyprus would not now join the EU.
Over three-quarters of Greek Cypriots voted to reject the plan meaning only the Greek southern part of the island will join the EU.
The Turkish north, which largely endorsed the plan, remains excluded.
