Independent Newspapers has advised its employees that it is to shed 175 staff by the end of May.
Seventy workers are to be made redundant due to technological advances. 105 clerical and administration staff are to be outsourced to external contractors.
The €23 million redundancy deal has been on the table since last August, but has failed to attract the number of voluntary redundancies required by the company.
