Following talks between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Northern Secretary in London today, it was announced that dialogue with the North's political parties will restart on Tuesday.
The Sinn Féin leader, Gerry Adams, is expected to meet the British Prime Minister in Downing Street before the weekend and the Taoiseach early next week.
Going into the discussions at the Northern Ireland Office in London, Brian Cowen said that he hoped the review could provide what he described as a conduit leading to resumed political dialogue.
Meanwhile, SDLP leader Mark Durkan has said the British government's response to the Cory Report is still unsatisfactory.
Speaking after talks with Tony Blair at Downing Street this afternoon, Mark Durkan said ‘we are not letting up until the Prime Minister delivers a full public enquiry. We are not taking the outcome of the Cory Report as satisfactory’.
Mr Durkan said that both the Cory Report and yesterday's IMC report marked a watershed because both brought together facts about paramilitary activity and collusion in a compelling way.
However, Mr Durkan said the sanctions against paramilitaries outlined yesterday by the Northern Ireland Secretary were not a solution to the problems identified in the IMC Report.
Both reports could be good for the peace process if acted upon properly, he said.
