The US National Rifle Association has said it intends to establish its own media organisation.
It would begin broadcasting on radio, television and the internet.
The group, which represents about 5% of the 80 million gun owners in the United States, is expected to face opposition from regulators who claim the group will breach the maximum spending limit for political advertisements during an election year.
The NRA says it is investing around $1m in the operation, which would focus on news about guns and hunting.
