Senator criticises handling of large projects

A Government Senator has strongly attacked the way large infrastructure projects are handled, saying it was time to get rid of 'costly and useless' consultants and under-performing staff.

Progressive Democrat Senator Tom Morrissey was reacting to media reports that said the Dublin Port Tunnel is likely to cost an extra €100m.

Senator Morrissey said that this proves that Ireland has a lot to learn, and that we are still a long way off from delivering excellence in public infrastructure in this country.

Senator Morrissey pointed to the example of Madrid, where he said no decision, whether political or technical, takes longer than 24 hours, which should be the new standard in Dublin.
