A car has exploded in the city of Nablus in the West Bank, killing a Palestinian militant who was apparently rigging it as a bomb.
The Israeli army said its forces were not operating in the immediate area at the time.
Witnesses identified the militant as 22-year-old Ahmed al-Abed, a member of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Hamas militants killed in Gaza
Two Hamas militants who swam up to a bloc of Jewish settlements in the southern Gaza Strip were killed by Israeli soldiers overnight.
The two, dressed in diving gear, were spotted wading ashore near Gush Katif and died in an exchange of fire.
The Israeli army said Israeli soldiers found weapons, including anti-tank rockets, near the bodies.
The Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for the foiled attack, and said it was conducted to avenge Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
