Three killed in attack on vehicle in Iraq

Three US civilians were killed and two others were wounded when gunmen opened fire on a US vehicle in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Witnesses said the victims had been driving through the city, 390 km north of Baghdad, in a civilian vehicle without a military escort when attackers fired on their car with AK-47 assault rifles.

Helicopters ferried the wounded to a US army hospital, and police sealed off the area.

Initial reports had suggested that the three people who died were Iraqis, and that the two injured people were American.

However, coalition military sources later said that the five people were all US civilians.
