5 killed in attack on Gaza border

Five people have been killed on in an attack at a checkpoint between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The dead include two Palestinian policemen and three suicide bombers.

The militant group Hamas has said it carried out the operation along with two other extremist groups, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and Islamic Jihad.

Twenty others were wounded in the attack at the Erez border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

The Israelis say they shot one man dead after he drove up to their positions in a vehicle disguised as an Israeli jeep and opened fire. The other vehicle blew up prematurely near the Palestinian police checkpoint, killing at least two Palestinian policemen and the bomber.

All crossing points between Israel and the Palestinian territories have been closed since late Thursday for fear of attacks during the Jewish Purim festival being celebrated tomorrow and Monday.
