It has been reported that the €2.5 billion regeneration of the Ballymun flats complex in north Dublin faces a four-year delay because of the need to dispose safely of asbestos which has been discovered in the buildings.
The Irish Independent says the Health and Safety Authority has ordered developers to remove the hazardous material.
The newspaper says Ballymun Regeneration Ltd had planned to demolish the seven towers without first removing the sealant containing the asbestos.
It says getting rid of the material first will delay the project by at least four years, at an extra cost to the taxpayer of between €80m and €120m.
