Pilots balloted over industrial action

Pilots at Aer Lingus are being balloted on industrial action, including possible strike action, over fears that the airline plans to make some of them redundant.

An Aer Lingus spokeswoman said that the company currently has 46 surplus pilots who are on full pay but not working.

She said the company was looking at alternative ways of utilising the pilots which might not necessarily include usual flying duties.

However, IMPACT Assistant General Secretary Michael Landers said the pilots fear that the airline's plans could mean compulsory redundancies.
