Bush to order intelligence probe: report

In the US, Senior Bush administration officials are reported to have said that President Bush will announce this week the establishment of an independent commission to investigate intelligence that was used to justify the Iraq war.

Mr Bush, who had earlier opposed such a commission, was under strong pressure from Republicans and Democrats in Congress to support an independent probe into intelligence that said Iraq possessed chemical and biological weapons.

No such weapons have been found.

The former senior US weapons inspector, David Kay, today said flaws in US intelligence before the war brought into question President Bush's policy of pre-emptive strike against countries deemed a threat to the United States.
