Israeli troops have entered the West Bank city of Bethlehem for the first time in six months, following yesterday's suicide bomb attack in Jerusalem in which ten people were killed.
The bomber was a Palestinian policeman who came from the Bethlehem area. He carried out the attack on behalf of the Al Aqsa Brigades who are linked to Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction.
Witnesses said 12 Palestinians had been arrested, but the operation appeared limited and most of the troops withdrew after a few hours.
The Israeli army pulled out of Bethlehem last year and handed over control to the Palestinian Authority.
