Taoiseach slammed over strike comments

Aer Rianta Worker Director Peter Dunne has said he believes next week's two-hour stoppage by SIPTU members at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports will go ahead.

Mr Dunne said the strike will proceed on Thursday 22 January unless the Taoiseach intervenes and suspends the proposal to break up Aer Rianta until a proper business plan has been published and analysed.

He said Aer Rianta workers had been backed into a corner and rejected Bertie Ahern's claim today that they were acting irresponsibly.

Speaking in Strasbourg, Mr Ahern described the planned strike as an imported bad habit, saying that whenever there was a presidency people looked for a dispute.

He said the proposed industrial action was totally unnecessary and should not happen.
