SIPTU continues Aer Rianta action

SIPTU members at Aer Rianta are to continue planning industrial action over Seamus Brennan's plans to break up the company despite the minister's intervention on Friday.

The civil aviation branches from Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports were summoned to a meeting in Portlaoise today by SIPTU President Jack O'Connor.

At the meeting it was agreed that Mr O'Connor would write to the Minister seeking clarification on certain points in Mr Brennan's Friday letter offering guarantees on job security and access to financial information prior to publication of any legislation.

In the meantime the strike committees will continue to plan an escalating series of stoppages targeting EU events scheduled over the coming months.

Meanwhile, official end of year figures released by Aer Rianta show that more than 20 million passengers travelled through Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports during 2003.

Overall passenger numbers were 5% higher than in 2002 representing more than one million additional travelling passengers last year.
