An Post planning property sale, job cuts

The chief executive of An Post has said that the company is in such a difficult financial situation, it plans to sell off parts of its operations and some properties. It also hopes to let 1,350 staff go.

Donal Curtin told an Oireachtas committee that last year, the company made a loss of €29.5m, instead of the expected profit of €1m. This year, it expects a loss of €16.3m.

Mr Curtin said that he hoped major work changes, including the staff reductions, could be introduced by agreement with the trade unions.
