An independant report into the death of a woman at Waterford Regional Hospital who contracted Legionnaires' disease there has found that the hospital, like most hospitals in the country, has no routine monitoring for environmental micro-organisms.
The report, by a leading micro biologist, has found that there were deficiencies in the water distribution system at the hospital.
The South Eastern Health Board has said it has already implemented many of the report's findings, and is in the process of implementing the remaining recommendations.
Last April, 61-year-old Ena Kiely from Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford was being treated for Crohn's disease at the hospital when she contracted Legionnaires'.
The mother of seven later died.
