Minister of State Tom Parlon TD has announced a €300,000 donation to the Irish Red Cross for payments to victims of the recent landslides in North Mayo.
Speaking today, Minister Parlon said, 'I am acutely aware of the distress caused to people arising from damage to their homes by the recent landslides in the Pollathomas/Glengad area of North Mayo.'
'I have already committed machinery and personnel to assist in the initial clean-up operation, and I am very pleased to confirm today that I am making €300,000 available to the Irish Red Cross to distribute to those whose lives have been turned upside down by this event.'
'I understand that the Irish Red Cross will be issuing cheques to the successful applicants by the end of this week.'
