The annual rate of inflation fell to 2.3% in October, the lowest level in four years. The Consumer Price Index, published by CSO, shows the overall cost of living fell by 0.1% during the month.
The most significant price increases occurred in the education sector where higher fees for private secondary schools, playschools and third-level maintenance costs pushed the education component of the index up 4.6% in October.
Today's figures mean that Ireland's inflation rate has halved over the past 12 months.
