The chocolate manufacturer Cadbury is to close one fifth of its factories worldwide and cut its global workforce of 55,000 by 10%.
There has been no indication yet of where the 5,500 jobs will be lost.
The company has three plants in Dublin. It has said it needs to cut costs following tough trading conditions.
