The Government has said it will pledge up to €3m in further assistance to Iraq. The pledge will be made at the Donors' Conference on Iraq which will be held in Madrid on 23 and 24 October.
It said the focus would be to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable in Iraq society, especially women and children.
The money is in addition to €5m made available to humanitarian organisations and UN agencies.
The funds will be disbursed through UN Trust Fund mechanisms and UN agencies, the Red Cross and Non-Government Organisations.
Announcing the pledge, Minister of State Tom Kitt TD stated that the focus in Iraq will continue to be those sections of society, especially women and children, who have suffered most over the last two decades and the recent conflict.
