The Aer Rianta group of unions has said it will serve two weeks strike notice over plans by the Minister for Transport, Séamus Brennan, to break the company up.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the group of unions this afternoon.
Before the meeting the SIPTU president, Jack O'Connor, warned that industrial action at Aer Rianta is inevitable unless Mr Brennan agrees to enter talks on the future of the company.
Mr O'Connor said the unions had received no response from Mr Brennan to their proposal for talks under an independent chairperson.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Minister said the break up of Aer Rianta is now settled Government policy and that the necessary legislation will be brought before the Dáil in the coming weeks.
Mr Brennan will also be naming the new Boards at Cork and Dublin airports within the next fortnight.
However, the spokesperson said the Minister was prepared to give assistance and hear union concerns on matters involving job security and term and conditions of employment.
Mr Brennan is expected to respond to the unions offer of talks under an independent third party, within the coming days.
