Airport charges to undergo review

The Commissioner for Aviation Regulation, Bill Prasifka, is to carry out a review of airport charges. In a statement, the regulator said there were 'substantial grounds' for a review.

He cited the consequences for the airline sector of external shocks such as the 11 September attacks and the war in Iraq, and the need for changes following information received by the Commission after the last determination of airport charges two years ago.

A notice to be published on 7 November will set out the precise issues to be covered by the review. This will trigger a 30-day consultation period.

Earlier this week, Ryanair called for Mr Prasifka's resignation after what it called his failure to control landing charges levied by Aer Rianta.
