Call for traffic free-flow during DART works

Dublin Chamber of Commerce has called on the gardaí to implement the traffic free-flow system at weekends while upgrading works on the South Dublin DART line take place.

The suggestion was made in a bid to encourage people into the city centre.

The DART line will be closed from Pearse Street Station to Greystones in Co Wicklow at weekends until next June, excluding the three weekends before Christmas.

Iarnród Éireann today began a controversial €176m project to upgrade the network.

Dublin Bus will increase the number of buses available on five routes adjacent to the Dart. The works will also affect services from Dublin's Connolly Station to Arklow and Rosslare.

Services to and from Heuston Station in Dublin also face delays because of signalling and track work taking place in Newbridge.
