Five TDs have called for the release of Dublin West TD, Joe Higgins, who has been in Mountjoy Prison for a week for breaching a High Court injunction.
Independent TDs, Tony Gregory and Finian McGrath, Labour Party TD, Tommy Broughan, Green Party deputy, John Gormley and Sinn Féin's Sean Crowe visited Mr Higgins in Mountjoy this morning.
They said the month's sentence imposed on Mr Higgins and his party colleague Clare Daly for their part in the anti-waste charge protests was too harsh and they called for their release.
Labour's Tommy Broughan also said Fingal County Council should collect bins from all households while talks take place to resolve the situation.
