One person killed in Baghdad bomb blast

A roadside bomb apparently aimed at US troops damaged two commuter buses in Baghdad today, killing one Iraqi and wounding around 20 people.

A US military convoy had been on the road when the bomb went off.

It is thought those vehicles were the target of the bomb, but most of them had passed by.

The explosion, at around 9.30am local time in the Adhamiya district of northern Baghdad, also damaged a car.

A bomb and gunfire attack in the area yesterday evening wounded three police officers and a US soldier.

After today's bomb, one bus lay on the side of the road peppered with holes from shrapnel.

The bomb had been planted in a dirt strip in the middle of the road.
