The newly-appointed Chairman of Bord Iascaigh Mhara says the fishing industry has been brought to its knees by EU policies.
Former TD and Junior Minister Hugh Byrne has called for a 'fight-back' by the State and the fishing organisations.
Mr Byrne said that fishing communities could not take any more and must be defended.
He said it was time to end the continuous round of quota catch reductions.
