The board of the Eastern Region Health Authority says it welcomes the Government's decision to ban smoking in the workplace.
A motion passed at its meeting tonight also urges the Minister for Health Micheal Martin to implement the ban from 1 January.
Earlier, it emerged that the Cabinet had reaffirmed its backing for the legislation, and it is thought the ban will go ahead close to the proposed date.
