Libya agrees higher payout for French

The French government has confirmed that Libya has agreed to pay higher compensation to the families of 170 people who were killed in the bombing of a French airliner over West Africa in 1989.

Last month, Libya agreed to pay almost €2.5bn to relatives of the victims of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.

France had threatened to block the lifting of UN sanctions against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's government unless it paid more to the families of people killed in the later bombing.
