ComReg slammed over An Post price increases

The small and medium sized business group ISME has attacked the Commission for Communications Regulation's decision to agree to An Post's application for price increases.

ComReg said it had made the decision following revisions to the company's discount scheme.

On 5 August ComReg agreed in principle to the price increase that will see the cost of a stamp rise from 41 cent to 48 cent.

But An Post was required to broaden its discount arrangements to better address the needs of small and medium businesses.

ISME accused the regulator of 'capitulation', describing the discounts offered for small businesses as 'derisory'.

The organisation called on ComReg to set targets for An Post, and to refuse any further applications for price rises until such targets were met.
