Former Republic of Ireland striker Niall Quinn has been presented with an honorary MBE.
The presentation was made at the British Ambassador's residence in Dublin.
Mr Quinn was honoured for his contribution to soccer and for donating the proceeds of his testimonial last year to charity.
Almost €1.4 million was raised for Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin, the Sunderland Royal Hospital and the Children's Charity in Calcutta.
Speaking after the ceremony the British Ambassador Stewart Eldon said: 'Today we congratulate a sportsman.......whose character and achievements are a real example to us all'.
