Students get Leaving Cert results

Almost 60,000 Leaving Certificate students received their exam results today.

The results were accessible on the internet since noon. The website is www.examinations.ie.

Earlier this morning results were available for students at their schools

Overall the results are broadly in line with previous years, although the Exams Commission points to a trend of increased participation in science subjects - physics and chemistry.

This will be welcomed by both the Government and industry.

The grades for these subjects are up as well - almost 15% of chemistry students got an A1 this year compared to 11.5% last year.

The National Parents' Council has warned students not to despair if they do not get the results they had hoped for.

The council has also urged students not to let too much alcohol spoil the celebrations tonight.

Meanwhile the Vintners' Federation has urged its members to be particularily vigilant this week and to only serve alcohol to young people with a national age card.
