Unions at CIE have agreed to defer planned industrial action, after a meeting with officials at the Department of Transport.
A joint statement said both sides agreed to a phased series of discussions in September and October designed to address the unions' concerns.
Unions at CIE had staged a one-day 'no fares' protest last month and had planned further protests against Transport Minister Seamus Brennan's plans to break up the group and privatise some Dublin Bus routes.
