UN talks on Liberia fail to deliver

The UN Security Council has held closed-door talks on the worsening situation in Liberia.

The death toll is reported to be rising following continued fighting in and around the capital, Monrovia, involving forces loyal to President Charles Taylor and opposition rebels.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting in New York, the UN special representative to Liberia, Jacques Klein, expressed frustration to reporters over the international community's continued failure to commit peacekeeping forces to the region.
