The Dublin Institute of Technology has announced it is unlikely to renew contracts in September relating to some 420 teaching hours - equivalent to 23 full-time posts.
The Institute said the cost cuts will affect 84 individual staff.
DIT signalled last March that its budget allocation for 2003 was insufficient to cover all of its current activities.
