The Government is examining the effects on the country's fisheries laws of a Supreme Court decision in a judicial review taken by a Dingle-based fisherman.
The trawler skipper, Vincent Browne from Kilshannig, Castlegregory, Co Kerry won a challenge to a ministerial order giving effect to an EU regulation banning drift netting for tuna.
According to his solicitor, the judgement may invalidate most of the current fishing regulations being applied in Irish waters.
The Department of the Marine says detailed consideration of the decision will take several days.
