The Ulster Unionist Party decided today to try again to discipline three MPs who have defied the leadership.
Members of the party's officers team voted 6-3 in favour of taking disciplinary action.
It was the third time in five days the two factions in the UUP confronted each other.
On Monday, the High Court ruled against a previous attempt to suspend the three rebel MPs, Jeffrey Donaldson, Rev. Martin Smyth and David Burnside.
On Tuesday, the party leader, David Trimble, survived a no confidence vote in his Upper Bann constituency.
Arlene Foster, another Trimble critic, resigned in anger two weeks ago but withdrew her resignation after the rebels won their High Court action.
Mr Trimble said last night that some of his opponents want to see the political process fail, but he is determined to stay.
