There is to be a review of the boundaries of the Dáil and European electoral constituencies.
The review body will be chaired by Mr Justice Vivian Lavan and will include the Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, the Secretary General of the Department of the Environment, and the clerks of the Dáil and Seanad.
The review is to complete its work within six months.
Constituency boundaries are regularly reviewed to accommodate population changes, with the last set of changes introduced in 1998.
