Syria has protested to the US over the wounding of several Syrian border guards in an American military strike on the frontier with Iraq last week.
Five guards were hurt when US special forces attacked a convoy which they believed was carrying aides of the former Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein.
In Syria's first official reaction to the attack, the state news agency (SANA) said Washington should return the wounded soldiers to Syria.
It said this would avoid any misunderstanding that might lead to 'an escalation neither side desired'.
