The Minister for Transport, Séamus Brennan, has told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport that he has no intention of wiping out the CIÉ Group debt of over €230m.
The Minister also said that no-one will lose their job in his proposed break-up of CIÉ.
Earlier, Minister Brennan said the State currently provides Dublin Bus with an annual subvention of €54m.
He said his plans to franchise out 25% of bus routes in Dublin might effectively involve bus companies bidding for the least amount of State aid to operate routes.
He noted that one company is currently providing a bus service to Dublin Airport without any assistance from the taxpayer.
The Minister repeated his warning to CIÉ trade unions that the so-called 'no-fare day' planned for next month would cause the company a loss of over €1m.
