At least 105 Nigerian villagers were killed when a petrol pipeline exploded as they were looting fuel.
The explosion happened on Thursday while villagers from the area around the town of Ovim in the southeastern state of Abia scooped up petrol from a vandalised pipeline.
It appears the pipeline had begun leaking around six weeks ago. At first it had been carrying kerosene, and then diesel, but later began to leak the more volatile petrol.
The fuel was flowing from the southern city of Port Harcourt to Enugu.
Pipeline explosions are relatively common in Nigeria and often claim hundreds of lives among the poverty stricken communities lying alongside the pipelines.
Nigeria is currently undergoing severe petrol shortages and yesterday the government announced a 54% price hike at the pumps.
