Eight people were killed and two are missing after a gas explosion in a Koranic school dormitory in central Turkey.

The explosion, which was apparently accidental, caused the building in Kayseri, some 250km southwest of Ankara, to collapse.

Reports said there were 23 people inside at the time.

Two of the bodies pulled from the debris were school employees and the six others were students.

Five people were presumed buried in what remained of the building.
