Blair launches campaign over the euro

Tony Blair has launched a campaign to bolster the case for Britain's membership of the European single currency when his government judges the economic conditions are right to join.

Speaking at a news conference with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister said it was time to take on what he called 'the anti-European myths and prejudices' in Britain and build a strong pro-European consensus.

Yesterday, Gordon Brown said that the time was not right for Britain to join the eurozone.

In the coming months, there are to be a series of road-shows around Britain extolling the benefits of euro membership once the economic difficulties have been overcome.
