SDLP leader Mark Durkan has called on the British and Irish Governments to press ahead with the implementation of the Joint Declaration.
Speaking in Dublin after a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, Mr Durkan said the Declaration should be implemented to ensure that all sides are working towards getting the Northern institutions up and running again.
Mr Durkan said the two Governments need to make it clear that this is their agenda, and that they are not just hoping that someone else will pick it up in the Autumn.
Asked about the forthcoming meeting of the Ulster Unionist Council, he said the whole process cannot be 'transfixed' while we go through another process of heaves.
Mr Durkan added that the two Governments have to take the process forward, not stand back and 'spectate' at what is going on inside Unionism.
